Tango 1972 concerns us all, the conscience and the experience of the censorship, the prohibitionism, the war, the uprising, the scandal, the explosion of freedom.
Tango is so rich that allows me to express solitude, exile, passion, life, death, love… It allows me to reveal my feelings naked.
I talk about it using all my senses through words – recitative, poetry, dialogs – gestures, dance and music.
It’s not a classic concert : for this work I have introduced some acting and some interaction with the public. The result is an increased amount of risk : I never know how the public will react.
It’s the account of my life. My complicity with tango is tightly connected to the history of my country, that Argentina from the 70s to the present days.
I live through dancing. My universe identifies to german romanticism and expressionism. I feel a proximity, an intellectual, poetical and musical bond with the culture of this country. There is something that attracts me, a life urge, an different eye that I can’t explain with words...
The bandonéon, the soul of tango, comes from Germany. Marina Cedro
This instrument was invented in Germany in 1846, for religious purpose, church music. The reason why it was invented was to create a substitute for the more expensive organ. At the beginning it was called bandonium. It was also very common to hear its sound on ships, played by the sailors. This is how it came to Argentina. At first it was played in brothels. But the italian accordéon players soon enough started to use it for tango because of its sad, velvet sound. Accordéon has a playful sound and bandonéon has really nothing joyful within.
